Redfield: Pheasant Capitol of the World
Situated at the busy intersection of South Dakota Highway 281 and 212, Redfield is a thriving community that has maintained its small town atmosphere. Main Street is always busy in Redfield. There are many businesses and shops to visit. A modern hospital and clinic with a 24-hour county-wide ambulance service and emergency room provide care to the area citizens.
Redfield offers a variety of recreational activities. There are many service organizations, recreation programs, and churches providing a wide range of community activities. There many opportunities for outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, nature walks, and a bike trail along the Turtle Creek and City Park.
Redfield was the first place in South Dakota to successfully introduce the Chinese Pheasant. The first successful pheasant release was in 1908 which led to the first pheasant season authorized on October 30, 1919. From Spink County pheasant hunting grew throughout the state. Hunters still flock to Redfield to bag their limit. Redfield has the distinction of being registered as the "Pheasant Capital of the World" ®
